Furniture from Tibet has always been quite rare as Tibetans generally used very
little in their homes. And because of their sparse population, not much furniture
made. The pieces are distinguished for their lavishly painted surface and carved
decoration. This can be attributed to the Tibetan artists who had skillfully
mastered the technique of gesso, or the creation of raised painted decoration
through gypsum paste.
