(January 2007) – Pacific Design Center (PDC), the
West Coast’s leading resource for interior design trades,
presents WESTWEEK WORK/SHOP 2007: Spring Break, to take
place on Wednesday, March 28 and Thursday, March 29, 2007.
An internationally-recognized trade event, WESTWEEK welcomes
thousands of design professionals and trade journalists each
spring. PDC Student Career Day will take place on Friday,
March 30, designed in partnership with ASID / Los Angeles
and area design colleges and universities.
Highlighting this year’s WESTWEEK on Wednesday will be “Top
Design Puts Young Talent to the
Test” featuring the new Bravo TV series Top Design filmed at
Pacific Design Center hosted by Elle
Décor and “Designers Tell-All” hosted by Metropolitan Home.
Thursday’s keynote programs will
feature “Rethinking LA: 21st Century Global City or City of
Missed Opportunities?” with Thom Mayne,
Eric Moss, Enrique Norten and Architectural Record Editor in
Chief, Robert Ivy and “Crimes of Taste”
with Mayer Rus of House & Garden. In the Conference Center,
the PDC will present programs hosted by
American Institute of Architects/Los Angeles, Coastal
Living, The Foundation for Design Integrity, Robb
Report Luxury Home and Western Interiors & Design. In
addition over 80 showroom programs will be
hosted focusing on new product showcases, trends and design
elements.
Wednesday, March 28th at 5:00 PM, Pacific Design Center will
present the 13th annual Stars of Design
Awards. This prestigious honor recognizes eight Southern
California design professionals that have made
a significant contribution in their respective areas of
design and design related fields chosen by the
industry’s leading editors and critics. This year’s honorees
include:

• Architecture - Tichenor & Thorp Architects, Inc.
• Product Design - Robert Kuo
• Photography - Mary E. Nichols
• Graphic Design - Persimmon Design
• Urban Design - Moore Ruble Yudell Architects & Planning
• Art - Charles Ray
• Lifetime Achievement - Cesar Pelli, FAIA
Pacific Design Center will showcase nine exhibits during
WESTWEEK 2007. MOCA Pacific Design
Center (The Museum of Contemporary Art) will feature Some
Assembly Required which presents various
approaches to prefab-homes built by the owner out of a kit.
The Hyperphoto by Jean-Francois Rauzier is
a large-scale hyper-realistic image constructed by precisely
assembling up to 1000+ close-ups taken with
a telephoto lens achieving gigantic images with extreme
precision. Renowned photographer Jim McHugh
presents On the Sunny Side of the Street: Polaroid Images
from Los Angeles which offers a unique view
of the city’s rapidly disappearing visual landmarks as well
as those still hiding in plain sight. ASID / Los
Angeles’ Green Gallery will focus on sustainable design and
building products. Chairing Styles by The
Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising features
original chairs and coordinating gowns designed
by interior design and fashion students. A breakthrough
technology by award-winning artist/designer
Arjuna Noor, MOODSPACE combines cutting edge lighting with
visual art and design. Defining Luxury
is an exhibition of eight contemporary ball gowns from the
atelier of Brunschwig & Fils. The 2x8: Vert is
an annual exhibition sponsored by the AIA/LA, showcasing
exemplary student work from architecture
and design institutions throughout California.
