industry, and designers and manufacturers need to know what
steps they can take to protect their designs, their
businesses and their profits. This seminar on intellectual
property issues relating to the home furnishings industry
will explore the knock-off issue from both sides – are
original designs worth protecting as investments in our
industry's future, or are knock-offs an economical way to

Multicultural Modernism
Join celebrity designer Bobi Leonard as she moderates a
discussion with Steven Ehrlich on multicultural modernism,
his distinctive approach to creating meaningful architecture
for the 21st Century. Ehrlich will trace the evolution of
his philosophy, incorporating numerous examples from his
recent work in the U.S. and around the world. Citing the
unique convergence of factors that challenge today’s
architects to adapt to global realities, Ehrlich makes a

The ever-evolving, unpredictable city is the most profound
creation of humanity. As a frontier for urban
experimentation and innovation, Los Angeles has become the
paradigm for the 21st century global city. Given this
influential position, it is essential that LA investigate
solutions to large-scale urban issues beyond the current
paradigms of planning. Join us as three of America's most
prominent, progressive architects muse about the city and
critically consider strategies for urban growth. The
discussion will urge LA to desire, to dream, and to perceive
the city for what it actually is-a vibrant, vast, and richly
textured metropolis that believes in itself, its uniqueness,
and its infinite potentialities.

talents to examine how being eco-friendly is really

amenities and materials are homeowners demanding for their
nontoxic environments, are developers really serious about
the trend? And how can you build a large home and be "green"
at the same time? Reception to follow in

Everyone's talking about 'green' building and design. Thirty
years ago 'green' meant granola with a limited audience; but
now it's here to stay, and in a fresh, accessible way that
doesn't sacrifice style, quality or performance. Learn from
the experiences of an expert designer who managed a stylish,
exclusive 'healthy' house from ground up, while engaging
colleagues who knew how to enhance the design while
accommodating the client’s 'healthy'
needs. We'll discuss designing
healthy vs. green, why these products make a difference, and
how to seek them out locally.
Reception to follow in Barclay Butera Home, Suite B465.
